Cell Phone and Dry Bags
You will need one (1) cell phone with you on the river to call for pick up. We have cell phone Dry Bags available for purchase. Make sure your phone is charged. Cell reception is good along the river and you can track your progress with a Mapping device, like Google.

Dress
Come dressed for the weather. Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. We generally don’t have an insect issue on the river. Although most people do not get wet, be prepared to get a little wet or muddy.

Fishing
You can fish while paddling on any of our River Adventures. Bring your gear and we have bait available for purchase. (Chicken livers, hearts, shad, shrimp, etc.)  Note in the comment section of your reservation that you would like a fishing kayak and we will do our best to accommodate you.

TPWD Game Wardens occasionally patrol the river. Age 17 and up must have a valid Fishing License.

Dogs
Yes, we allow dogs on our kayaks. We suggest a doggie life vest or harness and make sure the kayak will fit you and your dog comfortably. Dogs are NOT allowed on our Double Rush river run starting at LLELA.

Alcohol/Beer
State law allows alcohol on the river but Texas Parks and Wildlife can issue tickets for BWI (Boating While Influenced). You CAN bring alcohol on our property and the Trinity River.

BYOB – Bring your own Boat / Shuttle Fee
Bring your own kayak or canoe and pay for the shuttle fee only (per person fee). You will need to sign a liability waiver since we will be shuttling you and your boat.

Water Flow on River Adventures
We always have water on at least one of our Adventures. On occasion, we may not have an Adventure open due to water flow but we will place you on the one that does. We generally do not place people on River Adventures that require you to portage or get out of boats and walk unless we notify you ahead of time.

Life Jackets
We recommend that you always wear your PFD while on the water and all children must wear PFD’s. We have life jackets for all age children.

River Flow / Depth / Current / Obstacles
The river is flat water and there are no rapids or rushing water typically. Water current on the river is minimal and it will take effort to paddle down the river. This is not a floating experience. The river is up to 10 – 20 feet deep and is a natural river with logs, wild life and water life. Generally, there are no obstacles (trees, rocks) to navigate. We will warn you if there is any need to portage (get out and drag your boat due to water level) and provide alternative routes.

Age/Physical Ability
There is a certain amount of risk associated with paddling. We have no access to the river except at the launch points and take outs. So once you are on the river, we cannot get you off or help you. Generally children ages 3-10 can paddle with a parent in a Tandem Kayak or Canoe. We do not recommend anyone under 2 years of age. Children 8 and up can paddle an individual kayak. It is a 3 hour paddle so the child will need a certain amount of endurance or we suggest bringing a tow rope. We will leave it up to the parent to know their child best so please plan accordingly.

A person will need to be able to bend down to get in the boat and will need some arm strength to get out of the boat. The river is flat water but it is mostly a paddle effort to get down the river as water flow is minimal.

Picnic/Camping
There are not any places along the river to get out and camp or picnic. Most people float in their boats to picnic.

Gift Certificates
We sell Gift Certificates for River Runs. Come on in to the store of email us at info@trinityriverkayak.com and let us know what you need. We can mail it to you or you can pick it up in the store.

Rain
We will be kayaking in the rain UNLESS there are thunderstorms or a flood watch. If it is a light or intermittent rain, we will probably kayak. You can always call us and check. We do not offer refunds for rain-outs, but will be happy to move your reservation to another day.

If a pop-up shower should occur on the river you may pull over and wait it out or keep going. We cannot come and get you and you will need to finish the River Run. If an emergency should occur please dial 911 for Dallas Fire and Water Rescue.you
